The Department of Sociology and Social Work at the University of Portland (UP) seeks a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant or associate professor in social work to begin August 2020. The candidate will be expected to teach across the B.S.W. foundation curriculum to include courses on human behavior and the social environment, clinical/interpersonal practice, and research methods. Substantive research, practice, and teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas is particularly welcome: aging, health care, mental health, gender, and sexuality.


• PhD in Social Work or a related discipline
• MSW from a program accredited by CSWE
• 2 years post-MSW practice experience
• Diversity and inclusion experience: Priority will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education and who enthusiastically support the University’s commitment to social justice and serving historically underrepresented students. In
addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated knowledge, skills, and success in diversity and inclusion work within or transferable to higher education; these should be described in the cover letter (and, where appropriate, elsewhere in the application).

Preferred qualifications
For applicants at the rank of associate professor, preference will be given to candidates with experience in bachelor’s level social work education and familiarity with educational standards and program administration.
